Lisa Kudrow's ex-manager wins $1.6 million lawsuit against star

Actress Lisa Kudrow is best known for her role as Phoebe on the popular 90s sitcom, "Friends," and it was money earned during this time that was the subject of a lawsuit against her. Kudrow's former manager alleged that his client had failed to pay him fees owed from her earnings from "Friends." She played Phoebe throughout the entire run of the show that was hugely popular in Virginia and around the country. He claimed that Kudrow was in breach of contract, according to KABC. A jury in the civil suit sided with the manager. Kudrow has been ordered to pay him $1.6 million.

The man was Kudrow's manager from 1991 to 2007. He claimed that he and his client had an oral agreement giving him a 10 percent share of monies earned while he was her manager. One year after their work relationship dissolved, Kudrow's manager sued her for reportedly withholding upwards of $50,000 that he was owed. This was the beginning of their legal battles.

Kudrow's legal team argued that the actress did not owe her manager a commission on earnings she received after he no longer represented her. They also stated that as her manager, not her agent, he wasn't entitled to a commission. The team is appealing the court's decision. The attorney for the ex-manager made a statement calling the verdict rock solid. Kudrow was initially paid $13,500 per episode of "Friends," but was making more than $1 million per episode by the end of the series.

Oral agreements can be more difficult to enforce than written contracts, but that doesn't mean they're invalid. People in Virginia who are having difficulty with a business associate who is in breach of contract could receive important guidance from an experienced attorney.
